Timelines

What can you be doing NOW to prepare for KU? A timeline will help you plan your steps to KU month by month. To view your timeline, click the semester you wish to begin studies as a freshman or transfer student. 

Fall Freshmen

September through December

If you wish to be considered for scholarships, or if you are applying for admission to select programs, register for the SAT or ACT examination and request official scores be sent directly to KU. 

  • KU’s College Board school code for SAT takers is 6871
  • KU’s ACT school code is 1470

Register for the TOEFL or IELTS and request official scores be sent directly to KU.  TOEFL’s school code is 6871. 

Apply for admission to KU

Nov. 1 is the priority deadline for architecture and design programs in the School of Architecture, Design, and Planning.

Nov. 1 is the deadline for departmental scholarships in visual arts programs.

Learn more about Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate credits.  KU’s College Board school code for Advanced Placement exam scores is 6871. 

January

Application materials for IRUA scholarships must be postmarked by Jan. 15.

Apply for admission to KU

F-1 and J-1 students who have been admitted and issued their SEVIS document should register with SEVIS and apply for a student visa. 

February and March

Feb. 1 is the deadline for eligible and interested students to apply to:
  • The University Honors Program
  • The School of Architecture, Design, and Planning
  • The School of Music

Oct. 15 is the deadline for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Eligible and interested students should apply to live in the scholarship halls by March 1. 

Once you have obtained your visa, make your travel plans. 

Use the seven-digit student ID number on your admission letter to create your KU Online ID

If you plan to live on campus, sign a contract with student housing

April

April 1 is the final deadline to for students applying from outside the USA to apply for general admission to KU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  April 1 is also the deadline for students applying from outside the USA to apply to the School of Engineering.

If you had a housing contract mailed to you, return it to the KU Housing Office with your payment. 

Obtain your visa and make your travel plans. 

May-June

If you plan to attend KU in the fall, log into the student portal with the username and password you created when you applied, and accept our offer of admission. 

Request that your Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate scores be sent to KU. 

Have your high school send your final transcript and school-attested copy of your graduate certificate or diploma. 

August

Attend “You at KU” Orientation for international students.

Spring Freshmen

February-May

Ask your college or university to send official transcripts directly to IRUA. 

F-1 students currently studying in the United States should request their current school’s designated official complete the Intent to Transfer Form

F-1 and J-1 students outside the United States who have been admitted and issued a SEVIS document should register with SEVIS and apply for a student visa.

Students who have obtained a visa should make travel plans and review KU’s Prearrival Information.

If you plan to attend KU in the fall, log into the student portal with the username and password you created when you applied, and accept our offer of admission.  

June and July

June 1 is the deadline for general admission to most programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences  for applicants within the USA.

Ask your college or university to send official transcripts directly to IRUA. 

F-1 students currently studying in the United States should request their current school’s designated official complete the Intent to Transfer Form.

F-1 and J-1 students outside the United States who have been admitted and issued a SEVIS document should register with SEVIS and apply for a student visa.

Students who have obtained a visa should make travel plans and review KU’s Prearrival Information.  

Spring Transfers

February through May
